TYPES OF MASSAGE
There are so many different types of massage out there it can be overwhelming to know which one is the best one for you.
I am qualified to give Holistic Massage, Remedial Massage and Sports Massage. You have a brief description of these different types of massage below. After years of experience, I managed to mix the 3 of them in my own style. 2 treatments are never the same, and 2 patients will never receive the same treatment. Every stroke and technique is thoughtfully delivered to assist your unique needs. The treatment can be as focused on one complaint as you prefer or can be adapted to make you feel relaxed at the same time, not focusing so much in those tender spots but working with different techniques that would still be beneficial.
At A.F. Therapy you can enjoy a mix of these 3 disciplines, having injuries treated, receiving a pampering massage, helping improve your posture, preventing future complications, solving the cause of a problem, relaxing and helping your mind unwind ALL IN ONE. Because all the techniques used are applied from both a holistic and remedial approach, and this is one of the things that make A.F. Therapy unique.
Remedial massage:
Remedial massage is much more than a relaxing massage. A particular
muscle tension or chronic pain can be assessed to know where you need
treatment and what may be causing you pain. By performing some tests
I can know exactly which muscles are giving you trouble and can then
tailor a treatment to suit your specific needs.
We all experience aches and pains caused by our daily life activities.
Too much time sitting at a desk or a poorly posture can develop into
poor movement patterns that need attention.
This kind of massage provides a focused treatment to solve muscle
imbalances and increase your wellbeing, preventing you from having
the same problem again.
Either if you have been having pain for a long time or have just had an injury, this type of treatment can work for you, addressing the specific tissues needing work (muscles, fascia, tendons...) in order to assist the repair process and prevent future injuries or damage.
Conditions such as long-term pain, lower back pain and sciatica, stiff neck, shoulder, elbow, hip, knees and other joint problems or injuries, headaches, faulty breathing mechanics due to asthma or anxiety and many more complaints can be eased with a remedial treatment.
The treatment itself may involve techniques such as deep tissue work, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, stretches and active work from the client. The results are definitely worth it!
Sports massage:
Sports Massage is developed to assist
athletes before, during and after sports
events and the practice of exercise.
Advance techniques can help reduce
the risk of injuries and also help the
tissues recover faster after the practice
of sports.
In some cases, the faulty movement
patterns can lead to overloaded muscles,
which is a risk for injuries. Working on
hese can help improve the performance
and also decrease the risk of injuries, pain
and tightness.
Not only sporty people suffer from
injuries but some problems like ankle
sprains, knee injuries, thigh tightness or
elbow and shoulder pain are more
common in runners, cyclist, contact sports athletes, or people that because their intense exercising routine don't allow their bodies enough time to repair.
Sports Massage aids the recovery from injuries by assisting the tissues during the different phases of repair. When an injury is present, massage will be performed adapting the techniques and areas to work on, depending on the type of injury and the stage. Massage can not only speed up the recovery but also prevent future re-injuries.
As part of the treatment you will receive some rehabilitation advice and exercises to carry out at home in between sessions.
Holistic massage:
Holistic massage is a tailored treatment that meets your individual needs, seeing you as a whole.
You won't receive a relaxing routine of massage strokes, but a treatment that has been thoughtfully tailored to help reduce your physical tension and ease your mental and emotional symptoms (anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, insomnia...)
Physically, massage can relax tight muscles and improve
circulation, nervous system function and joint mobility,
easing short and long term pain. But massage also has
an emotional effect soothing the busy mind and
reducing stress, which is so needed in this busy life we
all have. And as we all know, emotional tension is held
in our muscles as well. That's why massage is beneficial
in so many levels!
Holistic massage focuses in bringing about changes in
2 levels:
- the tissues by working directly on them and by working
with relaxation and the response of the central nervous
system to different types of strokes. It is not as focused
as the remedial massage.
- the mind and the emotions, using touch as the key tool,
giving you that "me-time" we all need at some point and helping you relax.
